Foundations is an online publication of the Catholic Hospitals Digital History Books Collection. When a history book or booklet of a Catholic hospital or nursing school has not been produced Foundations seeks to provide basic historical information and dates of the organization and the ministry of the hospital. It also provides an opportunity to explore the historical contributions of Catholic hospitals in a Canadian community and Catholic health care in the Canadian context.

Often organizations or congregations have historical articles or unpublished histories about a Catholic hospital in their archives. Sometimes these were distributed widely within the organization or religious community but no wider. Such articles and summaries can provide an excellent basis and starting point for a Foundations article. Working with the organization or archivist of the congregation, the editor is willing to create and illustrate an article for the Foundations journal.
